A cattle trail leading to a branch of the Chisholm Trail crossed a corner of Hamilton County from Hico to west of Carlton. Each spring young cowboys from Hamilton County would herd hundreds of cattle up this trail not returning until fall. Stock raising was a principal industry of early Hamilton County.
