BORROWING MONEY
Mr. Williams said there were three men he could always borrow money
from, Uncle Tom Emmett,. John Blansit (the old man), and Uel Livingston.
Uncle Tom would let him have half of what he asked for, twenty-five if he
wanted fifty and so on. He would take no note, ask no interest. Said he
would lend anybody money whether he got it back or not, usually half what
you asked. Mr. Blansit charged five per cent a month. One he dropped
a dime and was looking for it in the sand, stirring it with a cane, and
said he was looking for the "interest." More likely someone
asked if he was looking for it). But when he (Mr. Williams) went to
Lampasas to take the Keelie Cure, he let him have two or three hundred and
wouldn’t take a note or interest - his brothers John Mark or Hogue to
repay it if he didn’t come back.
