THE SNELL CASE

(Interview on March 8, 1945)

No one was ever tried for the killing of William Snell. Dave Kemp and Highsaugh were arrested for it but nothing came of it. Everybody thought they were in it, thought they were out on the wrong trail and that Hendricks had them to do it. But there was no reliable evidence.

It was believed that one Chapman and Bogan were the ones who were on the other trail and had killed him. These things did not all come up at the time. That John Livingston, brother to the Jim Livingston who was killed many years later, the Snell assassination according to the record having been in 1880, was authority for some of the theory, and also a man who still lived in Erath County and formerly lived here. Though this is hearsay, it does all come from people who knew or probably knew.
