GENERAL LEE’S WAY
He talked to him a long time in a kindly
soft spoken fatherly way. Said, "I see you are from Texas." and
said he had known many Texas fellows, knew how they were and always liked
them. Finally he dismissed him, and as by afterthought , perhaps rustling
some papers said, I believe you are charged with some minor infraction of
our rules. I trust you won’t let that happen again."
Rutherford said that he never would and whatever might have been his
attitude toward other men, he always worshiped him after that, as of
course many did.
