OLD UNCLE MARIAN GRAVES

He said one time Uncle Marion Graves went to sleep and slept all night by the fireplace in the old basement saloon, which he at one time owned, in the old stone building on the northwest corner of the square. He kept getting closer to the fireplace, and next morning that he looked like an ash can cot. And told of the time Old Uncle Sam Williams and somebody spit tobacco juice on the chicken being cooked in the fireplace.

(There was a wall down in that basement saloon. Was told about how Mr. J. T. James, the time he and his family were living in a building on the west side of the square, where his office and property were later on. He would go down to that basement and draw a bucket of water for household purposes. Come the time that some people said "that old man is drinking himself to death. Every day he goes down to the saloon and gets another bucket of whiskey. It may be that his son Cecil James told that story. This old building will be rebuilt or demolished when the north wall fell in early this year. [The building was demolished. --Elreeta Weathers]
