ELZA
ELZA SCHOOL
COMMUNITY was named by Judge J. C. Main
for Elza, a daughter of "Uncle" Billy Jones.
Elza was west of Ondee and Olin and on the north
side of the Leon River about seven miles northwest of
Hamilton.
Elza School, one of the oldest rural school districts in the
county, was situated in the center of a circle of schools--Olin,
Sunshine, Gentry’s Mill and
Eidson.
Some of the families who lived in the Elza School
Community included: Dave and Susan Dolloff, Morris and Nettie
French, Jesse W. and Mary E. Garner, Elmo and Lottye Harris,
Eugene and Laura Harris, Claud and Nell Harvey, C. R.
and Iris A. Huston, J. B. and Alma Izell, W. M. and Rosie Jorden, E. C. and

Allen Boone DeHart, Baptist preacher, held a protracted meeting
(revival) in the Elza Community in August, 1930.
