NORTH LAMPASAS BAPTIST CHURCH
1917--1924, 1939--1946
The North Lampasas Baptist Church
at McGirk participated twice in the Hamilton County Baptist
Association. The first occasion was from before 1917 through 1924,
while the second occasion was from 1939 through 1946. McGirk Baptist
Church was admitted to the Hamilton County Baptist Association
on 22 August, 1939. Samuel Marshall "Sam" Drake was
pastor of McGirk Baptist
Church in 1939 and M. E. Williams
was church clerk. It appears that the McGirk Baptist
Church was
later known as the North Lampasas Baptist Church because Samuel
Marshall "Sam" Drake was pastor and M. E. Williams
was church clerk of the North Lampasas Baptist Church in 1940.
While the North Lampasas Baptist Church participated in the Hamilton
County Baptist Association for several years, there is no record of
its being admitted into the association. Both churches were at McGirk
which is seventeen miles southwest of Hamilton.
(May have used the name McGirk
Baptist Church intermittently from 1919 until 1939)
Oak Grove Baptist Church
(<1878--1884) was also at McGirk. In 1942, North Lampasas
Baptist Church was meeting in a school building in later years and did
not report owning any property.
