O. W. Davis, a member of this firm, is the son of Ike
Davis and a grandson of the late John and Mrs. John M. Baxley, and since
the death of the elder Baxley has represented the Baxley interests in the
B. & H. Firm.
Orville W. Davis [Orville
Weldon Davis] a Hamilton man. He was educated in
the Hamilton schools and then attended the Kemper Military Academy in
Booneville, Missouri. Upon returning home he immediately entered the
business of his grandfather and is now actively interested in making the
most successful enterprise of its kind in Central Texas.
John M. Baxley, founder of the business came to Texas
fif(hole in paper) years ago and has engaged in the (hole in paper)
business in Goldthwaite. Later he came to Hamilton and entered into the
same business with E. L. Surface as partner for five years. Their
investment was small and all of the bottling and cleaning of bottles was
done by hand shaking shot in the bottle, being a favorite and successful
method of bottle cleaning. Six years later Gus Huddleston bought the
Surface interest and with improved and scientific methods of cleaning, and
machinery throughout, and an $18,000 investment this firm is one of the
most complete and up-to-date bottling businesses in the state. Under the
old method of bottling by hand, only 15 to 20 cases could be handled a
day; now, with this modern speed equipment over 300 cases a day are
handled and over 100 gallons of ice cream can be made a day. Their goods
are sold all over Hamilton County and into the surrounding counties.
This enterprising firm pushes every detail and every
line of their entire business but the principal selling interest are in
the Coca-Cola and ice cream products.
This modern factor is the essence of sanitation and
efficiency. Good ice cream cannot be made with cheap products, and tasty
soda pops won’t allow of weak syrups. The B. & H. Firm believe that
the best is none too good for their customers and they strive constantly
to give the best. Pure cream and fresh fruits and nuts enhance Purity Ice
Cream. The best syrups that money can buy go into the bottled drinks.
The Historical and Trade Expansion edition of the News
wishes to congratulate Baxley and Huddleston on their splendid factory and
products and invites the people of Hamilton County and its surrounding
communities to visit this establishment and see for themselves how good
ice cream, Coca-Cola, and other bottled drinks are made. Summer won’t be
a nightmare if you keep a case of cold drinks on hand. They deliver.
