REV. J. LAMBUTH EVANS

Rev. J. Lambuth Evans, pastor of the First Methodist
Church of Hamilton was born in Hillsboro, Mississippi. He is the son of the
late Rev. C. C. Evans of the Mississippi Conference of the Methodist
Church. He was educated in the public schools of Mississippi; also the
Mississippi Conference Training School, Mississippi College and Seashore
Divinity School.
Rev. Evans was licensed to preach at the age of 20
years. He joined the Louisiana Methodist Conference and his first
appointment was Tangipehoa, LA. The charge consisted of five churches,
located in three parishes. It was the only circuit he ever served, as
promotion came early in his ministry and he served several of the best
churches until 1924, at which time he was transferred to northwest
Arkansas, on account of ill health. After he regained his health, he
returned to Louisiana and served for fifteen months for fifteen months and
was forced to retire from he ministry due to ill health brought on from
having the "flu."
In 1927 he entered the commercial world and remained in
same for two years, re-entering the ministry in 1929 and was given work in
the New Mexico Conference. Later he served in Trinidad, Colo. From there
he was transferred to Comanche, thence to Hamilton in Nov., 1933.
Rev. Evans married Miss Sophie Kemp of New Orleans, La.,
in 1916. They have three children: J. Lambuth Jr., Marietta, and Sophie.
