HASKELL HARELIK
_____
One of the very interesting careers of the business men
of the town is that of Haskell Harelik, a native of Paritch, Russia. Mr.
Harelik reached Galveston with just ten cents in his pocket. Shortly
afterward he came to Bowie and entered the fruit business, peddling it out
over the town and vicinity.
After accumulating sufficient means for a broader
investment this enterprising young foreigner came to Hamilton and again
sold fruit. Once more he concluded to extend his business ventures and
engaged in the Grocery business for a period, then sold out to Grant
Brothers, and commenced a mercantile career which he has successfully
followed ever since and has a countywide trade territory as well as over
the surrounding counties.
Mr. Harelik has a competent force of assistants in his
business to care for his customers and on special sales occasions he
increases the number.
After several years Mr. Harelik and his brothers were
financially able to send for their parents and brought them to their
adopted country. Two years later Mr. Harelik sent for Miss Matley Paley,
and upon her arrival she became his wife. These worthy citizens now have a
comfortable home in Hamilton, a prosperous business, and take an active
interest in the welfare of their neighbors and friends. They have three
sons, two of whom are students in the State University and the third is
attending the Hamilton schools.
