H. W. HENDERSON

H. W. Henderson is the son of H. M. Henderson who was a native of Alabama and a Confederate veteran who served through the entire Civil War. At the close of the war he married Miss L. L. Pool and immediately afterwards came to Texas to engage in the farm and ranch industries in Bell and Hamilton counties.

H. W. followed his father’s occupation for some time and then entered county politics. He was elected county clerk, serving in that capacity for two terms.

In 1933 he headed the county relief work and has ever since been supervising the sanitary work in the town and county; also the county and city road and street work, sidewalk building and repair work. All of this construction and clean-up program enabled unemployed men to obtain work and thus support themselves and families.

In November, 1933, the CWA work, under the supervision of Mr. Henderson, was undertaken on State and County approved projects. This line of work is varied. At present this useful organization is centered on mosquito and malaria control programs. All pools of water, vines, and tall grasses are being cleared out.

Beginning the week of July 1st canning operations will begin and it is estimated that the project will be extensive and successful. Everything that can be secured for foods will be canned. A certain percentage being held for the relief work carried on during the winter. The Carlton plant is operating. Hico was the first place in the county to take advantage of the project.

Mr. Henderson has a competent staff of assistants and all are earnestly endeavoring to dispatch the relief work placed in their charge expeditiously as possible, re to the greatest advantage of all.

Mr. Henderson cordially invites everyone to visit this unusual place of business and see how government supervised "made" work is carried on.
