-----
The town and county of Hamilton have a large number of
citizens who are of foreign descent and who have contributed very
substantially to bringing the standards of life to the high level demanded
by American citizenship. Among these worthy citizens are Mr. and Mrs. C.
J. Renken, whose parents were German born, but are themselves native born
Americans.
Mr. Renken’s parents, who engaged in stock farming in
Colorado county, died in his childhood; he early learned resourcefulness
and self-reliance and is largely a self-made man. Leaving Colorado county
he settled in he little town of Shive in the fertile Cowhouse valley and
assisted by his younger brother engaged in a general merchandising
business which he successfully conducted for eighteen years in addition to
his business interest he served as postmaster for fourteen years.
In 1917, Mr. Renken married Miss Winnie Angerman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Angerman. Her mother was formerly Miss
Frederica Kruger, whose death occurred twelve years ago. Her father is a
citizen of Aleman and is in business in that thriving town. In 1931 Mr.
Renken entered the Grocery business in Hamilton and carries a full line of
staple and fancy groceries, and fresh tender meats are always in the
market, as well as a complete line of fresh vegetables. The clerks
employed b him take particular pride in efficient service to his
customers.
Mr. and Mrs. Renken are proud of their home town and are
generous in giving their service to the social, religious, and civic
interest of their community. Their two young daughters, Aileen and Mavis,
are talented dancers and re popular members of the younger crowds.
