TUCKER’S FROG FARM
_____
J. R. (Jimmie) Tucker came from Gibson county,
Tennessee, originally, but he’s been gone from there for so long he
thinks of Texas and Hamilton as his native home. He came to West, near
Waco, with his parents while just a child. He married Myrtle Jordan,
daughter of E. A. Jordon, a merchant of Josephine, Texas.
J. R. became interested in the horned lizard or toad,
through his brother-in-law, Basil Jordan. Basil has the Texas
Aquarium Fish Company in Dallas. Mr. Jordan used to supply the toads to
various larger firms but turned the business over to Jimmie.
The farm was named "Jordan Tucker’s Frog
Farm" but clients soon dropped the Jordan until it is now know as
Tucker’s Frog Farm. It was named for Jimmie’s boy, Jordan, who takes a
keen delight in the care and catching of the frogs. They ship the little
frogs to many places in the country but chiefly to Louisiana.
