 I. S. SHEWMAKE --1897

Mr. Shewmake was born in Overton County, Tennessee, in 1867. He came to Texas in 1892 and settled at the head of Plumb Creek. He was located at Evant for two years, and later moved to Star, where he assumed charge of the large mercantile establishment of Warren & Buchman. He then moved to Hamilton, purchased the Warren Bros. Stock of dry goods and groceries, and started business for himself. He then sold out to J. J. Mills, and in 1897 was general manager of that business. The County News has been informed that he build the first ice plant here.
