JOHN DAVIS KOEN
J. D. Koen, senior member of the firm, was born and
reared in Hamilton. After graduating from the local high school he
attended a school of pharmacy and was given a certificate as a registered
pharmacist. He is the son of the late A. P. [Albert
Perry] Koen and Mrs. Annie [Eunice Ann]
West Koen, county pioneers who settled in the Blue Ridge community 55
years ago.
Before embarking in business for himself, John Koen was
employed by the J. T. James and Sons drug store. He is now rounding out 25
years in the drug business in Hamilton. In 1914 he was married to Miss
Ethel Smith, who is also a member of one of Hamilton County’s pioneer
families. They have two daughters, Misses Ruth and Cleo. [John
Davis Koen married Ethel Amanda Smith on 8 July, 1914, Hamilton County
Marriage Record Bi. 7, p. 13.]
Mr. Koen is active in civic work and has been a member
of the school board since 1924. He stands for all things that are for the
upbuilding of Hamilton and Hamilton County. Being courteous and having a
pleasing personality has made him numerous friends throughout this
section.
