OLD PHANTOM HILL ROAD CROSSED HAMILTON CO.

The old Phantom Hill road, which went to Fort Phantom Hill in Jones County, [passed southeast-northwest through Hamilton County. Traces can still be found for miles. It was a broad, double tracked road, used in 1840's or 50's.

The fort got its name because of mirages seen there. It was the subject of Larry Chittenton’s poems.

[As a child in the 1940's I was completely unimpressed when Daddy would point out the traces which crossed my grandmother’s field at Blue Ridge.--Elreeta Weathers]
