MISS MARY OPAL WEST, 1940
WEST WARD TEACHER IN 1940
Miss Opal became High School Librarian in
the late 1940's and remained in that position until she retired in
1972 after having completed 43 years in public education. Miss Opal
went through the library move from the top floor of the SE corner of the
high school building in the background, to the NW corner, then to the back
(east end) of the 2nd floor of the auditorium building, and then to the SW
corner of the old West Ward building which was renovated into a new high
school in 1952-53.
Miss Opal IS the daughter of Robert Lee
West and Dollie (Colwell) West. She is now 95 (2002).
