(Amanda White, born in DeKalb Co., Ala. June 3, 1844The last Indian raid made in Meridian was in 1870, the first light night in May. They got a bunch of horses. We had a horse and pony in the lot and the next morning, Mr. Harris said the Negro did not shut the gate last night. I looked about that time and saw the fence down and knew the Indians had gotten them. This happened the first night in may in 1870.

Married John Harris in 1866--children--Joe, John, Jim, Fount, Mary.  Harris died 1877

Married W. D. Evans 1886, Moved to the town of Hamilton in Oct. 1860.

 

[Amanda White was a daughter of John S. White and Elizabeth Barrier.]
