David Brecht

9-8-1719 - 9-22-1783

David Brecht was the son of Stephan Brecht. Johannes (John) was the only son of David Brecht, David and Sara had 7 daughters. Miss Scheidy is the 8th generation from Stephan by her mother Naomi Bright. She has verified all my information and with her help and genealogy research, has helped me discover that I am the 8th decendant of Michael Brecht of Reading, Pa. by my grandmother Elizabeth Bright. Stephen and Michael were brothers.

In December of 1995, I took my daughter Wendy Burns with me to clean and photograph the Brecht Cemetery, and in this way, another generation knows the location of this old and historical private burial ground.

The stone in the front is the foot stone of Anna Maria Brecht. There is a foot stone to the left, and most of it is in the ground, it is the foot stone of John Brecht.Behind the largest foot stone is the marker of,

ANNA MARIA BRECHT JAN/15/1757----MAY/24/1842 AGE---85/4/9

To her left is the marker of her husband, JOHN BRECHT JUNE/2/1747---FEB/9/1834 AGE--86/8/7

Johannes Brecht Homestead

THE HOMESTEAD OF JOHANN (JOHN) BRECHT

This is the home of John Brecht of Bern Township now Penn township. 1747-1834. John's father was David Brecht, 1719-1783. David's father was Stephen Brecht, 1692-1746.

The house did not have a date stone, the barn to the left of the house had a stone found on the wall with 1796, and the name John Brecht on it.

No Brecht has lived in the house since 1916. Looking at the maps of 1854 and 1876, I don't believe Stephen or David built on this spot. The homestead has its own private burial ground.

You can see the house from the Bright School Raod. The land is not in the Bright family now (1996) and is posted with no trespassing signs.

From Reading, Pa.------183 N. From the traffic light at Upper Van Reed Road, 5.7 miles. On Bright School Road, 1 mile. The farm is on the left side.

I verified my information with Miss Betrice Sheidy of Bernville, Pa. Betrice is the 8th generation of Stephen. I am the 8th generation of Michael Brecht of Reading, Pa.

I photographed the home in the summer of 1995 and again on 1-19-1996. This photograph was taken on April 21, 1996.
