General: Source Note: The 1860 census, July, show Job and wife Welthe and family:
Morton Lewis (20), Frederick (17), Isreal (16), Audra (15), Agatha DeEtte (11)
and Charles (6). They lived on a farm in the Town of Genesee, Allegany Co., NY
and during this census period, it showed he was a farmer and the 3 oldest boys
were listed as farm laborers. Job was 50 years old, and his wife, 43. Their farm
consisted as follows: Value of Real Estate-$2500 Value of Personal Estate-$551
Acres of Land-Improved:50, Unimproved-50 Cash Value-$2500 Machinery Value-$150
Milch Cows-2, Working Oxen-2, Other: Cattle-3, Sheep-16, Swine-3. Value of Livestock-$309
Bushels of Wheat-12, Indian Corn-50, Oats-200, Irish Potatoes-195, Buckwheat-

of Hay. Value of Slaughtered Animals-$88 Even tho the Census show Job being born
in Allegany Co, it could be that he was actually born in Oneida Co. This due
the fact his wife and first son Morton were born there. The above information
taken from the Census of 1860 in Little Genesee, NY date 16 June 1860, page 12
of Town of Little Genesee, lines 16-23. Agriculterual information taken from
same census. LDS file 0462867. The 1870 Census show: Job,60, Farmer, Value
of Estate-$4000, Personnel Estate-$1100 Weathe,54, House Wife Morton L.,
31, Farmer Agatha DeEtte, 21, without occupation Charles P., 16, works on farm
The 1850 Census taken in Painted Post, Steuben Co., NY dated 18 Sept 1850. They
read as follows: Job, head of household, age 41, married, no occupation, born
in NY. Whethe, wife, age 34, married, born in NY Morton Lewis, age 10, born in
NY, attending school. Frederick R., age 7, born in NY, attending school. Isreal
P., age 5, born in NY, attending school. Audra L., age 4, born in NY and attending
school (?). Also living with them was a: Ellen Pierce, age 20, born in NY, attending
school. The 1840 Census, taken in Cortland Co., NY (LDS film #275) We find Job,
head of household, with 1 son under 5 yrs, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 20-30. The
boy has to be Morton Lewis. He came with his family from Corning, NY to Boliver
and after a residence of 4 years, removed to Little Genesee. Source: The Boliver
Breeze, p1, c3, June, 1983. Death removed one of our oldest pioneers on Sunday
afternoon. "Uncle" Job Spencer, after a long illness, breathed his
last shortly after four o'clock. He was past eighty years of age. "Uncle
Job" as he was known to every man and woman in the village and vicinity,
was possessed of a kindly nature that endeared him to all. A wife, four sons,
and three daughters, survive him. Brief funeral services were held at the house
on Wednesday morning, and the remains were laid to rest in the Genesee (actually
the Boliver) cemetary. (Note: At the time the Breeze was published every seven
days) The Spencer plot, numbers 276 and 277 are located in the Maplelawn Cemetary
in Boliver, NY. He and his wife have a magnificent stone in their honor. At
present one burial site remains empty, although the town plot shows two, Emma
is buried there with no stone.
JOB SPENCER and Welthe Elizabeth LEWIS were married in Mar 1839 in Sangerfield,
Oneida Co., NY.
Welthe Elizabeth
LEWIS (daughter of Israel Putman LEWIS and Lucretia P. NEWTON) was born on
4 Aug 1816 in Sangerfield, Oneida Co., NY. She died on 12 Apr 1895.
She was buried on 13 Apr 1985 in Maplelawn Cem., Boliver, Allegany Co., NY.

Mrs. Wealthy Spencer died of paralysis at the home of her son, F. R. Spencer,
on Davis street, Friday, April 12,, aged 78 years, 8 months and 8 days. Mrs.
Spencer came to Boliver two weeks ago on a visit and was stricken with paralysis
shortly after her arrival. She had resided in the town of Genesee since 1856,
and was well known. Mrs Spencer leaves five sons (should read four) and one daughter
(should read three). They are Morton L., Charles and Agatha Spencer of Genesee,
Israel Spencer of Vernon (should read Vernonia), OR, F.R. Spencer and Mrs Lucretia
Mead of Boliver. Brief funeral services were held at the house on Sunday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. S.S. Powell of Little Genesee. The interment took place at
the Boliver cemetary. JOB SPENCER and Welthe Elizabeth LEWIS had the following

1840 in Sangerfield, Oneida Co., NY. He died on 10 Nov 1930 in Higgins
Mem. Hos, Olean, Cattaragus Co., NY. He was buried on 13 Nov 1930
in Maplelawn Cem., Boliver, Allegany Co., NY. He enlisted on 1 May
1861 in Cuba, NY and joined Co. B., 23rd Infantry Regiment, NY and
mustered out in Elmira, NY on 22 May 1863.

Died Monday. Well-known Veterinary Resident of Little Genesee for Many Years.
Mortimer L. Spencer of Little Genesee, a well-known veterinary and a veteran
of the Civil War, died at the Higgins Memorial hospital in Olean at 8:45 o'oclock
Monday morning, Nov 19. He was in his 90th year. Mr. Spencer become suddenly
ill about six weeks ago at his home in the Town of Genesee. He was removed to
the hospital suffering from intestinal trouble. Mr. Spencer had made arrangements
to return to his home this week. The cause of his death was acute dilatation
of the heart. Mr. Spencer was born at Sangerfield, N.Y., January 25, 1840,
but had lived in Genesee township nearly all of his life. During the Civil War
he was the first person in the Town of Genesee to enlist. He served in the 23rd
New York Infantry, being honorably discharged from the service. He was a pensioner,
being the last survivor of the Civil War veterans enlisting in the town of Genesee.
Mr. Spencer was probably the oldest practicing veterinary in the State of New
York. He practiced his profession until only a few weeks ago when ill health
compelled him to retire. Mr. Spencer was unmarried, and is survived by a sister-in-law,
Mrs. Emma Spencer of Shinglehouse, two nephews, Claude Spencer of Olean, formerly
of Boliver, and Homer (Omar) Spencer of Vernona (Vernonia) Oregon, also two nieces,
Emily Richards of Chicago and Eva Deeds of Iowa. Funeral services were held from
his late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. A.L. Davis, pastor
of the Seventh Day Baptist church of Little Genesee officiating. Burial was

Smith and Mary Smith being fictitious and intended to represent any and all other
nephews, nieces and cousins of decedent, whose names and places of residence
are unknown and cannot after due diligence be ascertained; Floyd A. Loop; A.L.
Rundals; Fred M. Burdick; Allegany County Telephone Company; W.R. Harbison; American
Surety Company of N.Y.; Olean General Hospital; Bolivar Breeze, Inc., and to
all persons interested in the estate of Morton L. Spencer, late of the town of
Genesee, Allegany County, N.Y., deceased, as creditors, heirs at law, next of
kin, or otherwise, send Greeting: You, and each of you are hereby cited to
show cause before our Surrogate of the County of Allegany, at the Surrogate's
office in the Village of Belmont, N.Y., on the 22nd day of May, 1931, at ten
o'clock in the forenoon of that day, why the real estate of Morton L. Spencer,
deceased, about 100 acres of land in the town of Genesee, Allegany County, N.Y.,
fully described in the petition on file in this proceeding, should not be sold
and conveyed for the payment of funeral expenses and claims again decedent and
his estate. In Testimony Whereof, we have caused the Seal of the Surrogate's
Court of the said County of Allegany to be hereunto affixed. Witness, Hon.

was born on 8 Aug 1848. She died on 29 Jun 1926. She
was buried on 30 Jun 1926 in Maplelawn Cem., Boliver, Allegany Co., NY.

Miss DeEtta Spencer, 78 years old, of Little Genesee died at her home on Tuesday,
June 29th. Miss Spencer's death marked the passing of an old resident who was
well known in this section. Her funeral was largely attended, particularly by
those of the older generation. The display of flowers attested the esteem in
which she was held. Services were conducted by the Rev. Burdick, formerly
of Little Genesee, music by the Little Genesee choir. Miss Spencer, who leaves
one brother, M.L. Spencer and an adopted sister, Eva Deeds of Grisnell, IA, was
a lovable character and many are the acts of courtesy and kindness ascribed to
her in life. The interment was made in the family plot in Maplelawn cemetery

Parker SPENCER was born on 18 Aug 1853 in Little Genesee, Allegany Co., NY.
He died on 8 Mar 1916. He was buried on 10 Mar 1916 in Maplelawn

c2, March 9, 1916. Charles Spencer Died Suddenly Yesterday. Resident of Little
Genesee for Many Years Succumbs to Dropsy. Charles Spencer, a farmer aged 62
years, died quite suddenly at his home in Genesee township, two miles south of
this village, at 9 o'clock on Wednesday morning March 8. Dropsy is given as
the cause of death. Deceased was the youngest son of the late Job Spencer and
Welthe E. Lewis Spencer. His father was born in Sangerfield, Oneida county,
N.Y., in 1809, coming to Boliver from Corning in 1852. He died at Little Genesee
in 1893. Mr. Spencer was born in Boliver and had lived here and at Little Genesee
nearly all of his life. He was a farmer and was unmarried. He is survived by
two brothers, M.L. Spencer of Little Genesee and Israel Spencer of Vernoria,
Oregon (shoud be Vernonia); besides one sister, Miss DeEtte Spencer of Little
Genesee. The funeral will be held at the house on Friday at 10 a.m. with burial

The funeral of the late Charles P. Spencer was held at his late h ome at two
o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. Loofboro of Little Genesee officiating. The
pallbears were Marion Green, Warren Willard, Lucian Lewis, Andrew Cummings, John
Howe and C.L.E. Lewis. The internment was made in the Boliver cemetery. Mr.
