Thank You

I would like to thank the following people for their contributions, corrections, enthusiasm, and most of all, their time. Without the help of these people, this site would not be as interesting and not nearly as informative as it is.

Oscar Faris

While on vacation in Franklin County, TN in the early 1970's I discovered a book concerning the genealogy of the Faris Family compiled by Mr. Faris at the library there. Much to my surprise and delight, I found an entire section referencing my family and ancestors. From then on, I was hooked!

Bessie Burris Hunt

Who's book, Ancestors and Descendants of Jonathan Burris and Mary Jemima Boardman, and correspondence helped to open the way to discovering many more ancestors and relatives.

Dennis Gillespie

Dennis, a descendant of George through his son William has graciously allowed the inclusion of his copyrighted material on this site.

Patricia Short Makris

Wrote a charming book about her home town and it's history. The Other Side of Sewanee gave me a glimpse into the life of my Great Grandfather Richard Johnson Gillaspie.

Mary Ann Mitchell

Mary's husband, Leonard is a descendant of George through his daughter Sally. Mary provided much appreciated information on the Cash line and filled in many gaps for the children of George Jr. and Lewis Gillaspie.

Sherry Oakley Simmonds

The ever widening branches of our family tree grew just a bit more with my correspondence with Sherry. Correcting the connections between the Gillaspies, Turners and Oakleys. (Thanks for the photos!)

Judy Phillips

A lifetime member of the Franklin County Historical Society and keeper of the TnGen Franklin Co. web site. Through numerous e-mail correspondences, Judy has helped to point me in the right direction many times in my search for resource materials.

Carol Holt

I respectfully refer to Carol as "the graveyard lady". Carol has located for me the resting places of many of my ancestors in Franklin County.

Mary Millus Johnson

Another descendant of George through his daughter Elizabeth. Mary is a member of the Amherst Baptist Church in Virginia and is the person who helped me find the grave site of George Gillaspie.

WT and Alice Wright

I met WT Wright through Mary Millus Johnson. WT invited me to visit him and his wife who live on land that has been in the Wright family for generations and is where the grave site of George Gillaspie is located. Thank you WT and Alice for your wonderful hospitality.

Joyce Lesich

Another great connection made via the Internet. Joyce lives in Charlottesville, VA and sent the photos of Athlone Plantation, the earliest documented home of George Gillaspie.

I would also like to thank all of my relatives for putting up with my questions and requests.

Especially, my uncles Richard and Joe Gillespie, aunts Helen Gaines and Lula Mae Gillespie, cousins Eva Lewis and Jo Wilson,

my mother Bertha Gillespie and lastly my wife Janel for her love and understanding.
