Patricia Weems CHESNEY (Me) b. 12-24-1938 in West Columbia, Tx married Robert Lee SCHWEBEL b. 7-29-1938 in New Gulf, Tx Wharton Co.

At fifteen years of age, A.J. and father moved by wagon to Lebanon-Votaw community of Live Oak County Texas. As the oldest son he help his father clear the land and build a house. Later he worked at the Zachariah's Holiday ranch breaking wild horses. While working at the ranch he met and married Betty Holiday.

After two children Betty died in 1885. He remarried and had fourteen children, including two sets of twins, but four died in infancy. One set of twins were born in a covered wagon that was parked on the Weeds place near a creek. Mrs. Weed delivered Velma and Thelma before the doctor could arrive.
Like his father, A.J. was a staunch Methodist and a upright man,interested in his children and his community. He left Live Oak County in 1909, going to San Patricio County, where he had a sorghum mill near the town of Gregory, until about 1921 when he moved to the town of Sinton and became the Justice of the Peace.

Desperately need contact with a Smith researcher to get me started on
this brickwall of my Grandmother. George Washington Smith b 1826 Ga
(place unknown) mar Ruth Ann Tompkins, died in Talladega Co, Ala 1872.
Had several daughters and two sons, Andrew Jackson Smith b 1857 and
Campbell Commodore Smith b 1855 After George Washington Smith died in
Ala 1872, Ruth Ann and the children came to South Texas in Live Oak Co.
She died in 1901, place unknown. I have a picture taken about
1908-1909 of Johnson and Hawkins Smith, with a cousin, Marvin Elmer
Custer., all young men. Marvin Elmer Custer b 1890 and they were about
same age. Undoubtably they are sons of one of the two boys. One of
the daughters of GW was Margie Lee b 1870 who mar Andrew Jackson Custer
and became my grandmother. Elmer was her son.

Dear Jean,
I am also a White descendant. Researching the Headley Coburn "Henry"
White and Lydia Wright family. Their daughter Nancy Parilee White married
Lorenzo Dow Yarbrough, this is my line. The Whites were from NC > TN > TX
settling in Leon County. Headley and Lydia later moved into McMullen County
and many of their descendants are scattered through South Texas.

I'm looking for info on my great, great grandfather. His name was: John Marion Custer - Born in Marion County , Alabama in 1864. I have been told that he was an outlaw for a while who hid out for about 10 or 20 years. He ended up in Texas . I have been unable to find any info, but I have a record of him in Texas and I actually have a picture of John and his wife taken in San Antonio, Tx dated 1948 when he was around 84 yrs. old.

I'm going to have to get the list out. I decend from the Marion County , Alabama Custers as well. They settled in Live Oak County area after the civil war. They came down with Zachariah Holliday clan. George Thomas Custer is who I believe is John Marion's father. I would love to see that picture you have. I have one of George Thomas and who is probably John Marion's brother, Andrew Jackson Custer . Looks like we might be cousins!

I appreciate your response to my post! Yep, John Marion Custer is the son of George Thomas Custer . I believe he was named after his uncle John Marion Custer who died in the Civil War.

I actually have a book called "The Trail Drivers of Texas " which is a compilation of many first hand accounts from Old Time Trail Drivers. Each man contibuted a brief tale of his life and times on the Cattle Trails. John Marion Custer submitted his tale called "Scouting and Routing in the Good Old Days ". The book was published in about 1915 or so. This is where he tells of his getting into some trouble in South Texas and time spent riding under the alias of Bill Wilson . He never says exactly what he did to get in trouble and that is one of the things I have been trying to find.
