Maternal Genealogy My LORD descendants are derived from Thomas LORD and Dorothy BIRD-LORD of Hartford, CT. The order of descendancy is; I. Thomas LORD (1585-?), II. William LORD (1618-?), III. Robert LORD (1651-1739), and IV. Ebeneazer LORD (1705-1750). My lineage picks up with the next generation; V. Ebenezer LORD (1740-1815). and continues herewith. The LORD Genealogy has been quite extensively done in the book "Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas LORD, An Original Proprietor and Founder of Hartford, Conn. in 1636"; compiled and copyrighted by Kenneth LORD and published by Tuttle, Morehouse & Taylor Company, New Haven, Conn. This book is out of print. I could not do the LORD genealogy without getting involved with the BAKER line also. John BAKER (?-1700) of Hartford, CT married Lydia BASEY (1640-1700). The BASEY genealogy has been quite extensively covered in a book "THE BASEY FAMILY IN THE UNITED STATES" compiled by Otto Basey and copyrighted in 1950. This I found as a reprint from Higginson Book Co., Salem, MA The BAKER and LORD families migrated from Hartford down the Connecticut River valley and I found them in Middletown, East Haddam, and on Long Island Sound in New Haven and New London. In some instances there were marriages between the two families. The LORDs and BAKERs migrated into NY State (counties of Madison, Monroe, Steuben ) and west into Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan. Most recently I made a trip to Erie CO., PA to pursue my gr-gr-grandparents, STEEL and LOYER (LAWYER) and I am happy to say that I did find them. That research is also included. |
