| Notes for Joseph Taylor Sr |
Mary Slade and Joseph Taylor's tombstones In Rev. Rones book he gives the wording on both Reverend Joseph Taylor and Mary Slade's tombstones. It states that Mary, wife of Rev. Joseph Taylor b: April 17, 1766 d: February 15, 1840. They had two original stones that were starting to crack and break off, then in September of 1982, Rev. Rone and his wife bought a marble marker with both names and dates and laid it where the originals were. They took the originals and placed them on small slabs of concrete over the graves. There are several Taylor's in this cemetery which was opened on a small hill south of Slaty creek Baptist Church, about 3/4 of a mile and slightly west on the Prentiss-Cool Springs Road. It is located about 7 miles south of Beaver Dam on State Hwy 269. Their son, Alfred is buried there also and has a monument that was placed there by the Gasper River Baptist Association.

It appears to me that Joseph elected to settle the West Prong of the Indian Camp Creek; its watershed including most of the area bounded by the Western Ky Pkw, US 231 and Baizetown (Ohio Co.). It appears that the North Prong of the Indian Camp Creek was settled by Nancy Taylor & Daniel Daugherty, Sarah Taylor & Robert Daugherty. The East prong was settled by Alfred Thomas Taylor & Elizabeth Taylor (dau of Joseph and of course Thomas's own niece), Polly Taylor & James Peter Taylor (no known relations) and Redding Taylor & Mary Ann Macksay (Thomas and Redding removed to Indiana but Thomas returned after a few years). Elizabeth Taylor & William Beesley settled the high grounds between the North Prong and the East Prong and their children intermarried with families on either side. The entire Indian Camp Creek water shed covers an area from the Western Ky Pkwy to Ky Hwy 79 and from the Green River to the Grayson County line, including parts of Butler and Ohio Counties. 5
