| Notes for Alfred Thomas Taylor |
I remember my fathers stories about how Alfred Thomas was killed. I visited the farm where he was killed last Thursday with my brother Robert Forest, his Wife Zora Ethel EVANS Taylor (a primary source of my info), and my wife Eleanor Faye Bunch Brown(nee) Doolin Taylor. We also stopped on the Dexterville Rd. at the site of the Paul Fergusen grave (Rev. War Vet. and friend of William Beasley, married to Elizabeth TAYLOR d/0 Moses, Sr.). It is in bad shape and the marker is completely rusted over. Perhaps I can get the local DAR to take an interest in it. By the way my brother Forest, his son Danny, and the Daugherty family own most of the land on the North Prong of the Indian Camp Creek where the early Taylors, Daugherty and Beasleys settled. Zora's brother, Stanley Evans, owns most of the land on the East Prong of the Indian Camp Creek where Calvin Prevatte settled and donated the land for the original Barnetts Lick Church and burial ground. Patrick Daugherty, s/o Chesley (bro/o Douglas), owns land on the East Prong where Alfred Thomas was killed which is at the intersection of Hwy 79 and Dexterville Rd., about three miles down stream from the Calvin Prevatte site. Of course all are descendants of Moses Sr., are most of the people who live around them. All of this territory from Welches Creek to Flat Foot, Gilstrap, Baizetown (Ohio Co.), Arnold (Ohio Co.), Neafus (corner of Ohio, Grayson and Butler Cos.) were my roaming grounds on foot and by horse when I was growing up. Some of it is good farm land and some of it God made to hold the world together. 5

In true Ky slang my father addressed his g-grand father as Alford Thomas. I consent that his name was probably Alfred vice Alford but I do not remember hearing him referred to as Thomas Alfred until I saw your list. He must have gone by Thomas because that is prevalent in public documents. My grandfather, I call Alford Peter because my father always called him that. He went by Peter but that may have been short for Prevatte. His father, Calvin Prevatte Taylor, went by Calvin but was also called Peter. I always hoped that they got tired of naming children one thing and calling them something else so they simplified the names. It reads Alford Peter Taylor on his grave marker. One other is Joseph, Sr.s son, Alfred Taylor. As I understand it, he had so much talent in leading soles to God that he was considered a super preacher and called Elder Alfred, instead of the ordinary Rev. Alfred so I use the TITLE Elder instead of Rev. for him. I believe that was what he was commonly called and I believe it is on his grave marker; I'll check it he next time by there. 5

I have read that Alfred Thomas Taylor did not like the name Alfred and therefore, was referred to as Thomas. In records, his name appears both ways. 10 |
