Notes on Madison Co., MO: Madison MO was originally organized dec 14, 1818 from parts of Ste. Genevieve and Cape Giradeau counties, extended west to Black River and east part way across what is now Bollinger Co., The nothern and southern boundaries were essentially as they are now. At that time all of the business of each county was transacted by the circuit court. Judge Richard S. Thomdas called the first meeting of the court in Madison Co at the home Theodore F. Tong on Jule 12, 1819. Court meetings were held in private residence until 1822. A brick court house was built that year and in Nov. 1822 the first session of the court was held there. This court house was torn down in Nov 1899 and a new one built in Nov 1900 (From Judy Feary)
*** Jackey, his wife and two sons were all murdered on Dec 13, 1820 by John Duncan. John was told there was money to be had... all he got was $68.42
