| Notes for Roscoe Taylor |
Roscoe began farming in 1924. He and his brother Ernest shared a mail route in 1933-1934. In 1935, they began operating a general store in Casey, Kentucky. In 1935, Roscoe became the postmaster at Casey, Kentucky post office. He bought his brother's interest in the store in 1943 and became the sole owner. In 1953, Roscoe gave up the post office and devoted full time to the general store and farming. In 1962, he retired. Throughout Roscoe's career, Elfie was a partner, assisting him in managing the store and post office, in addition to raising the family and taking care of the housekeeping chores. Roscoe and Elfie were both active member of Barnett's Lick Missionary Baptist Church. They both joined the church in 1930 and were baptized in the Green River at Aberdeen, Butler County, Kentucky. Roscoe served as church treasurer for 31 years (1950-1981), as messenger to numerous associations, and overall caretaker of the church property. Elfie served as Sunday school secretary for 41 years (1940-1981) and church clerk on a number of occasions [Butler County Genealogy - "Taylor-Flener"].
