Note on Husband: Stephen PILGRIM
Stephen was an Ostler. He was quite tall and looked after horses during the 1st World War in France. He was gassed several times but managed to survive the war. After the war he worked for Leicester City Council, again with the horses that pulled the Dust Carts. The war severely damaged his health and he drank heavily. He suffered badley with lower back problems. He would often be layed out across the kitchen table whilst a hot clothes iron was applied to a sheet of brown paper placed on his back. He died of a heart attack in the street.Ref:EMG born 1913
Stephen and Agnes are burried together in Gilroes Cemetry, Leicester. Plot number GG134
I believe that Stephen seved in the Royal Garrison Artillery and that his number was175097, but I have only found one record of this and it does not confirm where he came from.
