Edward RINER was born around 6 Mar 1805. A male in his age group waslisted with his mot h e r in Emanuel County during the 1820 census. Hewas an 1832 Winner in the Cherokee Land Lot t er y - 23rd District, 3rdSection and 14 District, 4th Section. Edward's name was drawn f o rEma nuel county grand jury duty in April 1844, and on 20 Oct 1845("Emanuel Superior") . I n 185 0 Edward and Rity were farming betweenhis brother and sister-in-law - James and Fe rb y (Trull ) RINER andRitty's parents - Allen and Susannah (Tyson) MEEKS. On the 1880Johns o n County c ensus he was listed as "G.E. RHYNER". On onemarriage that he performed he sign e d his name a s "Edward R. Riner".Edward and his first wife, Ritty MEEKS, were charter membe r s of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church in Emanuel County, Georgia. Sardis Churchwas founde d m ostly by me mbers of the Riner family and most of thoseburied in the cemetery are relate d t o the Riners . Sardis Church islocated west of Swainsboro on county maintained road #S212 4 . It issout h of Kite and just east of US 221. The Church was constituted 7May 1853.
Edward was a farmer and an Elder of the Primitive Baptist Church andserved at Antioch Ch u r ch in Emanuel County in 1857 and 1858 and heserved at Gum Log in 1872 and 1877. He perfo r me d many marriageceremonies in Emanuel County between Dec. 1844 and Nov. 1869 and inJohns o n C ounty between Mar. 1860 and Jan 1884.
He owned the land northeast of the town of Meeks, including the areawhere the town lat e r w as built. His land was on Mulepen Creek andhe had a dam and some type of mill, probab l y a g rist mill forgrinding corn into meal.
Edward and both of his wives are buried in unmarked graves in the OldRiner Cemetery near M e e ks, Georgia.
