"Robert MEEKS may have been a younger son of John MEEKS, Sr., born alittle after 17 4 6 . A partially extant 1775 Census of Pitt County, NC, which does not include the distric t w he re the other Meeks lived,lists him with 1 white male age 16-50, 1 white male age 16 ; 1 ad ul twhite female, and 2 female children. He served a 3-year term in theNC Continenta l Line , r eceiving a discharge on 27 Feb 1780 (preservedamong the pay vouchers). In 1790 h e was i n Pi tt County with 1 whitemale over 16 and 4 white females. He did not own land i n Pitt . Robert was in Edgecombe County in 1800, but also did not own land there."
