William enlisted as aPrivat e i n Comp any F, 48th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, "Battleground Guards", on 4 Mar 1 862 . He fe ll out on march fromRichmond to Rappahannocck in August 1862. He was wounded at S harpsburg , Maryland on 17 Sep 1862. William Jr. died of typhoidpneumonia in General Hospit a l #3, a t Lynchburg, Virginia on 29 Nov1863.
