Notes for Allen Meeks

Allen MEEKS was born in North Carolina around 1777 and was living in Greene Co., NC, in 1 800 . It does not appear that he remained in Greene County for long. He was the only MEEKS there on the 1800 Census and none were there in 1790.
Allen and his young family migrated down to Georgia in the early1800s, eventually settl i n g in the area that became Emanuel County(established 1812). Allen was allotted a parc e l o f land in theCherokee Land Lottery - 4th District, 2nd Section.
It appears most likely that Allen was a younger son of FrancisMEEKS, Sr., although Ja m e s MEEKS also remains a possibility.Unfortunately, few records seem to be available to test this further.
During the 1850 Emanuel County Census Allen and Susannah were farming next to their daughter and son-in-law, Ritty and Edward RINER.
