" Jonas MEEKS purchased 110 acres in Pitt Co., North Carolina, fromShadrach WILLIAMS on 5 Ma y 1787. He sold this land with his wifeKissiah, to Francis PARKER of Gates Co., N C on 28 Au g 17??.(witnessed by Abraham SAUNDERS, Britain MEEKS, William DARDEN).Francis ME EKS , Sr. pu rchased and sold land from and to the same menat the same time. From a record i n th e Treas urer's Papers, CountySettlements of the State, I find a fine levied in the cas e The Statevs . Jonas MEEKS in Glasgow Co. in 1795, providing another connectionto the Greene Co. area. Jo nas was in Bladen Co. in 1800. Sometimelater he migrated down to Georgia , settling around E manuel County."

In 1810 Jonas was listed with a 2nd wife, Susan, in MarionDistrict, South Carolina. Th e i r son: Jonas Jr.

Jonas and his 3rd wife, Celia TYSON (believed to be the younger sisterof Keziah), were far mi ng in Emanuel County, GA, during the 1820,1830, 1840, and 1850 Censuses. In 1850, they live d next door to theirson, Stephen. Living with them during the 1850 Emanuel County C ensus w ere Nancy GARDNER, born about 1790 in North Carolina; FrancisWILLIAMS, born about 18 27 , a f armer; and Benjamin WILSON, born about1832, a farmer.

Note: some people say there were only 2 marriages - to Keziah andCelia.
