At the time of the 1860 Johnson County Census, Spencer Allen and MaryAnn (RINER) MEEKS w e r e living with his first cousin, David T.JOHNSON.

During the Civil War, Spencer A. MEEKS enlisted as a Private inCompany F, 48th Regime n t , Georgia Volunteer Infantry, "BattlegroundGuards", on 4 Mar 1862. He suffered a skull f r ac ture at Gettysburg,Pennsylvania on 3 Jul 1863. He was captured at Fairville, Pennsylvan ia o n 7 Jul 1863. He was released at Fort Delaware, Delaware on 7 Jun1865. He died on 24 O c t 19 12 and is buried in a small cemetery nearPilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist near Sardis C h urch.
