William Enoch Meeks was the first son born to William and AmericaMeeks. He was born on Augus t 9, 1895 in Indian Territory near Brazil,Oklahoma. He lived there with the family until the y moved to SebastianCounty, Ar. He attended school in Center Valley. As a young man, hetrave led to the Arkadelphia area, Cattlegap community, where he workedfor Henry Meeks. After retur ning to Sebastian county, he met andmarried Effie Newhart from Zion community. They were mar ried onNovember 11, 1917 in Charleston, Arkansas. There were five childrenborn to this marria ge, Stacy, Rhea, Theda, Kenneth, and Adeline.Willie had several jobs in his lifetime, such a s share cropping,cutting railroad ties, picking cotton and farming. Effie worked alongside W illie.

Willie was an avid hunter. He always had several hound dogs. He alsoliked to fish.

In the early 40's, he worked for Theodore Meeks in a shoe shop untiTheodore moved. In the e arly 50's he bought his first shoe shop andthis is what he did until his death. He and Effi e lived on the oldMeeks homeplace near Booneville. He attended the Baptist church.
