ELLIOT BAKER

Was born in Pike county, Illinois, January 2d, 1844. James Baker, his father, died when Elliot was but eight years old, leaving a widow and five children, four daughters and one son.

Elliott remained with his mother until 1862, when, thinking the government required his services, with a spirit of patriotism enlisted in the 3d Missouri cavalry, and served three years. He was then honorably discharged, and returned to Pike county, Ill. In 1866 he was married to Miss Susan Goodin, and settled on section 9, in Martinsburg township, where he still lives, engaged successfully in farming and raising stock. He has three interesting children--two daughters and one son. Mr. Baker is looked upon as one of the enterprising and good farmers of this township.
