Is the son of John A. Rowley, whose name appears elsewhere in our historical sketches. George was born in Pike
county, Illinois, in the year 1841, and lived with his parents until 1858, when he went to learn the plastering
trade, and worked at the business about three years. In 1860, he married Miss Emily, daughter of I. Ator, after
which he turned his whole attention to farming and raising stock. He lived on rented land about five years, when,
in the year 1865, he purchased the east half of section 31, in Martinsburg township, where he settled and is still
residing, and doing well. He has an interesting family of five children — three sons and two daughters. He is a
man who has prospered well in all his undertakings, and has always lived a moral and religious life, and is much
respected wherever known.
