Are sons of Capt. Horace Horton. They were born in the state of Connecticut, Henry in 1814, and Hobert in 1819.
They came with their parents to Illinois, in 1832, bought land and settled on section 1, in Atlas township, Pike
county, Illinois, where they both now reside. In 1849 Hobart went south with horses, cattle, and mules. He sold
his stock in Louisiana to good advantage, and then engaged on a plantation with his uncle, where he remained eight
or nine years. He then married Miss Mary Sargent, of Louisiana, and came to Illinois on a visit, remaining one
year, when he returned. On their arrival at New Orleans, Mrs. Horton died, leaving Mr. Horton with one child, a
son. He remained in the south until 1853, when he married his second wife, Miss Octavia L. Udell, of New Orleans,
and in 1855 returned to Illinois, and settled on the farm where Henry had remained all the time.
These brothers have been jointly connected in business all their lives, and have been very successful. Henry has
never been married, but has made his home with Hobart, ever since his return from the South. They are both actively
engaged in farming and raising stock, and are classed among the good and prosperous farmers of Atlas township.
