What's
on the site? I initially traced the GREGORYs who were miners in the Derbyshire Lead Mining Industry before returning to farming. Then came the HAMBLETONs from Mellor who worked in the textile industry and paper mills of Glossop. The WINTERBOTTOMs were farming in Glossop before it was industrialised; many of them became stonemasons as the town grew rapidly with 19thC industrialisation and then later went to work in the mills. This is my earliest Glossop line. My father's family came from Yorkshire and Essex and were researched by my uncle, Roy Sparkes. Names researched include SPARKES, Galley and Cardy from Essex and HOYLAND, Mellor and Dyson in Yorkshire. As well as my family, I am now tracing my partner's PRIESTLEY family, who originated in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The resource page takes you to all my transcriptions:
The Village page has information about each place I have an interest in, currently:
The Surname page has all my names of interest. The links page has relevant links for these places or names.
