Moffitt Cemetery is located in Howell County in Missouri, one half mile south of U.S. highway 60 on county road 1550. The location is in section 3, township 26N, range 9W of Howell County.
This cemetery is no longer accepting burials. It is mowed occasionally but otherwise does not appear to be well-maintained.
As you may see in the photographs in these pages many of the markers are simple field stones placed at the grave sites. Having grown up in southern Missouri I realize that rocks will "grow". However, each stone I have photographed appears to have been strategically placed. In addition, there are several spaces that are obviously graves, but which have no marker of any kind.
My grandmother, Gladys C. (Napier) Godsy, told her children that no one else could be buried in Moffitt because the cemetery was full. If this is true then there are a great number of unmarked graves in the cemetery.
In her book Willow Springs and Surrounding Communities 1869-1969
Centennial , Ella Lily Horak wrote that the land for Moffitt Cemetery was
donated by Andrew Smith, whose grave is located in Moffitt Cemetery. Andrew
Smith had homesteaded the land before the Civil War. She also indicates that
a log school building was located at the northwest corner of the cemetery shortly
after the Civil War.
