She wrote February 24, 1984:
"My oldest sister (age 72) just this week recalled my
mother calling one of the Ace Whitmires 'Uncle Ace.' I find an Ace Whitmire in the 1910 Soundex of Williamson County
enumerated with a Frank M. Calder as U. (uncle?). If so this would have to be "Brushy Ace" Whitmire. I found a record of a marriage between Poncy
[Poney?] Whitmire and Margaret Bounds [Pounds], Williamson County, in 1879
[March 6, Marriage Book 5, page 10]. So
I assume that Ace and Poncy are the same, though there is certainly no clue in
those names for 'Brushy.' My mother's
half sister, Emma Sides was married to a Rad or Ransom Calder, but I do not
know if Frank is their son. I find
Frank Calder, age 20, in the 1880 census of Bastrop County, Texas enumerated
as "lodger" in the household of Andrew Whiteley." [Amanda Lucinda "Cindy" McCall
(M3/3.1) had a first cousin by the name of J. A. Calder.]
