Christopher Whitmire (W7/3.4), son of George Frederick Whitmire (W8/1.3) and Sarah Phoebe Hagood Whitmire (H8/1.1), was born in 1785 in Newberry District.  He was mar­ried about 1808 to Sarah Shettleworth (S7/1.1), according to Opal Gelene Pennington Blagg (P1/1.1).  He died there January 26, 1820, according to Nancy Jane Hinkle Flesch (H3/7.7).  The grave of "Sarah Whitmire, died December 19, 1855, age 66 years, 8 months" was located in the Whitmire Cemetery in Newberry County.  It is probable that Christopher Whitmire (W7/4.4) was buried there also, but no headstone was listed for him.  [A grave located at Lower Duncan's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, probably not that of Christopher Whitmire (W7/4.4), was recorded in "Newberry County Cemeteries".  The tombstone read, "Christopher Whitmire, died June 13, 1817, age 65."  This is pos­sibly the grave of Christopher Whitmire (W8/1.4), uncle of Christopher Whitmire (W7/­3.4).

 

Children born to Christopher Whitmire (W7/3.4) and Sarah Shettleworth Whitmire (S7/­1.1) are unknown.

 

Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5), son of George Frederick Whitmire (W8/1.3) and Sarah Phoebe Hagood Whitmire (H8/1.1), was born about 1782.  He was married about 1805 to Elizabeth Hill (H7/1.3), daughter of Henry Hill (H8/1.1) and Alice Ridgely Hill (R8/1.1).  She was a sister to Ruth Hill (H7/1.1) who married Henry Whitmire (W7/3.2).  In 1820 they joined his brothers in moving to Franklin County, Missouri.

John Hill Whitmire (W6/5.1), son of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whit­mire (H7/1.3), was born in 1807 in Newberry District.  He was married December 25, 1829 to Elizabeth Williams (W6/1.1), daughter of Rev. Lewis Williams (W7/1.1), accord­ing to Franklin County marriage records.  They were enumerated in the 1850 census of Franklin County.

                                      Thomas L. Whitmire (W5/1.1), son of John Hill Whitmire (W6/5.1) and Elizabeth Williams Whitmire (W6/1.1), was born in 1832 in Frank­lin County.  He was married November 12, 1862 to Martha J. McPeak (M5/1.1), ac­cording to Franklin County marriage records.  Children born to Thomas L. Whitmire (W5/1.1) and Martha J. McPeak Whitmire (M5/1.1) are unknown.

 

William Whitmire (W5/1.2), son of John Hill Whitmire (W6/5.1) and Elizabeth Williams Whitmire (W6/1.1), was born December 15, 1833 in Franklin County.  During the Civil War he served the Union as a corporal in Thirty-first Missouri Infantry Regiment, Com­pany E.  He died unmarried December 9, 1923 and was buried in Whitmire Cemetery.

 

Polly Whitmire (W5/1.3), daughter of John Hill Whitmire (W6/5.1) and Elizabeth Williams Whitmire (W6/1.1), was born in 1836 in Franklin County.

 

Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2), son of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whitmire (W7/1.3), was born in 1810 in Newberry District.  He was married about 1832 to Eliza­beth Margaret Clark (C6/1.1), daughter of Jacob Clark (C7/1.1), who was born in Abbe­ville, South Carolina.  He was remarried about 1851 to Mary Angeline Sullivan Williams (S6/1.1) who was born in 1825 in Missouri.  She died in 1881 and was buried in Crow Cemetery, and he died in 1891 and was buried beside his second wife.

Mary Clark Whitmire (W5/2.1), daughter of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Mar­garet Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born in 1835 in Missouri.  She was married in 1853 to Augustus Martin (M5/1.1), son of Bartlett Martin (M6/1.1) and Harriet Marquis Mar­tin (M6/1.1), who was born in 1824.  In 1893 they lived in Sullivan, Missouri where he was the mayor.

Thomas J. Whitmire (W5/2.2), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Margaret Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born in 1836 in Missouri.  He was married about 1857, wife's name Massey.  He died near the age of 100.

 

Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Margaret Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born March 1, 1838 in Missouri.  He was married December 24, 1860 to Mary A. Diffenback (B5/1.1) who was born in 1842 in Pennsylvania.  She died January 14, 1872 and was buried in Buffalo Cemetery.  He was remarried February 15, 1873 to Susan Emily Evans (E5/1.2) who was born in 1850 in Missouri.  They removed to Texas in 1883, probably influenced to move there by his brother Charles C. Whitmire (W5/2.7), who came to Texas in 1869 and settled in Hill County.

 

He was enumerated at the head of a household in the 1900 census of Hill County, Enum­eration District 36, page 17, precinct 1:

 

        "Whitmire, Moses H.     62, born March 1838 in Missouri

                   Susan E.     50, born January 1850 in Missouri, wife

           Martin, Hattie V.    14, born June 1885 in Texas, niece

Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3) died in February 1902.  His obituary appeared in the "Hillsboro Mirror:"

 

"He was a quiet industrious honorable gentlemen, a good farmer and a successful one. He had the confidence and esteem of everyone who knew him and was one of the leading citizens of his community.  There was little tinsel about him, and everyone esteemed him as being what he represented himself to be.  His death is a distinct loss to the community as well as to his family and one feels in con­templating his life and work that such men as he were too rarely met in this life."

 

"Mrs. M. H. Whitmire, born 1844 in Missouri, living alone" was enumerated in the 1910 census of Hill County.

Anna Louise Whitmire (W4/3.2), daughter of Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3) and Mary A. Dif­fenback Whitmire (D5/1.1), was born November 20, 1866 in Franklin County.  She died September 14, 1899.

 

Priscilla Whitmire (W4/3.3), daughter of Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3) and Mary A. Diff­enback Whitmire (D5/1.1), was born in 1869 in Franklin County.  She was married about 1887 to W. D. Orr (O4/1.1).

 

Daniel Whitmire (W4/3.4), son of Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3) and Mary A. Diffenback Whitmire (D5/1.1), was born December 3, 1871 in Franklin County.  He died September 3, 1872 and was buried in Buffalo Cemetery in Sullivan.

 

Benjamin F. Whitmire (W4/3.5), son of Moses H. Whitmire (W5/2.3) and Susan Emily Evans Whitmire (E5/1.1) was born in 1879.  He was enumerated twice in the 1900 census of Hill County.  In the first enumeration he was shown in the household of Thomas J. Miller, No. 509.  In the second Benjamin F. Whitmire (W4/3.5) was reported "born in Texas in 1879" and was living in the household of Ellen Freer, No. 507.

 

James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Margaret Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born in Franklin County in 1845.  He was married there March 10, 1872 to Elizabeth J. Noel (N5/1.1), daughter of Newman B. Noel (N6/­1.1) and Charity Noel.  During the 1870s he was a schoolteacher in Franklin County and was elected sheriff there in 1878.  In 1898 they removed to Sullivan, Missouri.  She died in 1911, and he died in 1921.  They were buried in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.

Clarence Whitmire (W4/5.2), son of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born about 1874 in Franklin County.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War.  He was discharged and returned to Missouri in 1902.

 

Theresa H. Whitmire (W4/5.3), daughter of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born in 1875 in Franklin County.  She was married April 9, 1900 to James M. Coppedge (C4/1.1), according to Franklin County mar­riage records.

 

Susan A. Whitmire (W4/5.4), daughter of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Eliza­beth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born in 1876 in Franklin County.  She was married September 3, 1896 to Isaac H. Whitmire (W4/1.1) of Dent County, Missouri, "believed to be the son of Henry Whitmire and Sarah H. Whitmire," according to Mrs. Jerry C. Whit­mire.  Children born to Isaac H. Whitmire (W4/1.1) and Susan A. Whitmire Whitmire (W4/5.4) are unknown.

 

Walter W. Whitmire (W4/5.5), son of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (Nu/1.1), was born in 1877 in Franklin County.  He was married Novem­ber 10, 1898 to Mabel C. Haley (H4/1.1), according to Franklin County marriage rec­ords.  He died in 1949, and she died in 1962.  They were buried in Steelville Ceme­tery.

 

Children born to William W. Whitmire (W4/5.5) and Mabel C. Haley Whitmire (H4/1.1) are believed to include:

Wilber H. Whitmire (W3/5.1), believed to be a son of William W. Whitmire (W4/5.5) and Mabel C. Haley Whitmire (H4/1.1), was born February 13, 1902.  He died January 8, 1909 and was buried in Steelville Cemetery.

 

Elmer Whitmire (W4/5.6), son of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born about 1878 in Franklin County.  He died in infancy and was buried in Steelville Cemetery.

 

James Christopher Whitmire, Jr. (W4/5.7), son of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born in 1880 in Franklin County.  He died in 1934 and was buried in Steelville Cemetery.

 

Thomas Noel Whitmire (W4/5.8), believed to be a son of James Christopher Whitmire (W5/2.5) and Elizabeth J. Noel Whitmire (N5/1.1), was born about 1885 in Franklin County.  He was married there June 15, 1913 to Sarah Frances Lintz (L4/1.1).  He served in the U.S. Army during World War I.  Children born to Thomas Noel Whitmire (W4/5.8) and Sarah Frances Lintz Whitmire (L4/1.1) are unknown.

 

Jeremiah E. Whitmire (W5/2.6), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Margaret Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born in 1847 in Franklin County.

 

Charles C. Whitmire (W5/2.7), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Elizabeth Margaret Clark Whitmire (C6/1.1), was born in Franklin County in May 1848.  He went to Texas at age 20, settling in Hill County.  He was married there about 1876, wife's name Mary J.

 

He became a cattle drover and participated in drives to the north.  In 1870 he made a drive of 750 cattle to Denver, Colorado with the help of six cowboys and a cook.  En route they encountered a blizzard, and the herd was scattered.  After a delay in col­lecting the cattle the drive was continued and successfully completed.  Until the Texas buffalo herds disappeared about 1880 Charles C. Whitmire (W5/3.7) supported his family as a buffalo hunter going into the empty expanse of the Texas plains with his buffalo wagon.

 

He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 census of Hill County, Enu­meration District 70, page 41, precinct 1:

                   Lettie        3, born in Texas"

 

Mary J. Whitmire died after 1880, and Charles C. Whitmire (W5/2.7) was remarried, sec­ond wife's name Mary L.

   They were enumerated in the 1900 census of Hill County, Enumeration District 36, page 17, precinct 1:

                   Mary L.      36, born June 1864 in Tennessee

                   Lettie M.    23, born March 1877 in Texas

"Charles Whitmire" died October 29, 1932 in Hill County, according to Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics File 42925.

Lettie M. Whitmire (W4/7.1), daughter of Charles C. Whitmire (W5/2.7) and Mary J. Whitmire, was born in March 1877 in Hill County.  She was enumerated as a three-year-old in the 1880 census and at age 23 in the 1900 census of her father's household.

 

Charles T. Whitmire (W4/7.2), son of Charles C. Whitmire (W5/2.7) and Mary L. Whit­mire, was born in July 1897 in Hill County.  He appeared as a two-year in the 1900 census of his father's household.

 

Claborne Franklin Whitmire (W5/2.8), son of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Mary Angeline Sullivan Williams Whitmire (S6/1.1), was born in 1853 in Franklin County. He was mar­ried there October 25, 1881 to Elizabeth Turner (T5/1.1) who was born August 31, 1860.  She died July 20, 1884 and was buried in Crow Cemetery.  He was remarried September 3, 1891 to Annie Morrow (M5/1.1).  Claborne Franklin Whitmire (W5/3.8) died December 29, 1910, and Annie Morrow Whitmire (M5/1.1) died January 16, 1941.  They were also buried in Crow Cemetery.

Agnes Aurilla Whitmire (W3/1.1), daughter of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1907.  She was married about 1930 to Charles R. Armistead (A3/1.1).  Following retirement from the U.S. Army they returned to Missouri.  Two sons were born to them.

 

Lewis C. Whitmire (W3/1.2), son of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born March 29, 1909.  He died December 2, 1909 and was buried in Crow Cemetery.

 

Helen Elizabeth Whitmire (W3/1.3), daughter of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1911 in Franklin County.  She was married about 1939, husband's name Williams.

 

Nathaniel Elmer Whitmire (W3/1.4), son of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1913 in Franklin County.  He was mar­ried about 1936 to Hattie Henderson (H3/1.1).  In 1980 they were living in Lancaster, California.  Children born to Nathaniel Elmer Whitmire (W3/1.4) and Hattie Henderson Whitmire (H3/1.1) are unknown.

 

Franklin Wayne Whitmire (W3/1.5), son of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born in Franklin County about 1916.  In 1980 he lived in Lancaster, California unmarried.

 

Winifred Frances Whitmire (W3/1.6), daughter of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1919s Whitmire (W3/1.6), daugh­ter of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1919s Whitmire (W3/1.6), daughter of Elmer Ernest Whitmire (W4/8.1) and Rosetta Irene Toelle Whitmire (T4/1.1), was born about 1919my during World War I.  Following Armistice he farmed with his father in Franklin County.  Upon retirement he lived in St. James, Missouri.

 

Mary Whitmire (W4/8.3), daughter of Claborne Franklin Whitmire (W5/2.8) and Annie Mor­row Whitmire (M5/1.1), was born about 1894 in Franklin county.  She was married about 1914, husband's name John Jones (J4/1.1).  She died shortly after marriage.

 

Frances Hope Whitmire (W4/8.4), daughter of Claborne Franklin Whitmire (W5/2.8) and Annie Morrow Whitmire (M5/1.1), was born July 22, 1895 in Franklin County.  She was married July 18, 1932 to John Emmel Wright (W4/1.1) who was born July 16, 1895.  He died May 27, 1964.

S. Frances "Fannie" Whitmire (W5/2.9), daughter of Nathan Whitmire (W6/5.2) and Mary Angeline Sullivan Williams Whitmire (S6/1.1), was born in 1860 in Franklin County. She was married November 17, 1884 to James M. Shaffer (S5/1.1), son of William Shaffer (S6/1.1) and Sarah Shaffer.  Five sons were born to them.

 

William Whitmire (W6/5.3), son of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whitmire (W7/1.3), was born about 1811 in Newberry District.  He was brought to Franklin County by his parents in 1820.  He was married about 1840, wife's name Wheeler.

 

Phoebe Whitmire (W6/5.4), daughter of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whitmire (H7/1.1), was born about 1819 in Newberry District.  She was married to her cousin Moses Whitmire (W6/2.5) as his second wife in 1849.  She died in the same year in childbirth.

 

Christopher Frederick Whitmire (W6/5.5), son of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Thomas Whitmire (H7/1.3), was born April 15, 1815 in Newberry District.  He was mar­ried about 1841 to Catherine French (F6/1.1) who was born December 16, 1826. She died March 22, 1873 in Washington County, Missouri, and he died January 15, 1889 in Wright County, Missouri, according to Betty Lou Russell of Ironton, Missouri.  Two daughters, names unknown, were born to Christopher Frederick Whitmire (W6/5.5) and Catherine French Whitmire (F6/1.1).

 

Margaret "Peggy" Whitmire (W6/5.6), daughter of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whitmire (H7/1.3), was born about 1818 in Newberry District, South Carolina.  She was married in Franklin County April 7, 1841 to William V. R. Thurmond (T6/1.1).  Five children were born to them.

 

Polly Whitmire (W6/5.7), daughter of Thomas Whitmire (W7/3.5) and Elizabeth Hill Whit­mire (H7/1.3), was born about 1822.  She was married about 1840 to John Auer (A6/1.1).  She died December 13, 1895.

 

Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6), son of George Frederick Whitmire (W8/1.3) and Sarah Phoebe Hagood Whitmire (H8/1.1), was born August 25, 1789 in Newberry District.  He was mar­ried about 1808 to Elizabeth Evans (E7/1.1) who was born August 11, 1790.  He was an officer in the War of 1812 and was thereafter called "Colonel," according to "Jacob Clark of Abbeville, South Carolina."

 

John Jacob Cofer (C5/1.1) wrote, "I have often seen the sword my grandfather, Col. Moses Whitmire carried in the War of 1812.  It went into the possession of my mother's sister, Mary Whitmire, who married her cousin, Henry Whitmire.  Their son Isaac Whit­mire [(W5/9.1)] took it with him when he removed from Franklin County to Dent County, Missouri."

 

In 1818 Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) joined his brothers in moving to Franklin County and assumed the leadership of the party.  Route of the wagontrain led through Cumberland Gap, across Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and crossing the Mississippi River into Missouri.  They were influenced to a site on the Merrimac River by Daniel Boone whom they met at Potosi, Missouri, according to "Sons of Frontiersmen."  Moses Whit­mire (W7/3.6) appeared on the 1819 tax list in Missouri.  He appeared as a resident of Union, Missouri in 1827.  He died there December 25, 1836, and she died there August 3, 1864.

Phoebe Unity Whitmire (W6/6.1), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whitmire (E7/1.1), was born August 11, 1813 in Newberry District.  She was brought to Franklin County in 1820.  She died in 1873 unmarried.

 

John Hill Whitmire (W6/6.2), son of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whit­mire (E7/1.1), was born June 18, 1815 in Newberry District.  He was brought to Frank­lin County in 1818.  He was married December 25, 1829 to Elisa Williams (W6/1.1), according to Franklin County marriage records.  He was named executor in the will of his father probated in 1837.  In 1849 he joined the gold rush to California.  He died in Portland, Oregon Territory September 10, 1850.  Children born to John Hill Whitmire (W6/6.2) and Elisa Williams Whitmire (W6/1.1) are unknown.

 

Isaac E. Whitmire (W6/6.3), son of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whit­mire (E7/1.1), was born September 14, 1816 in Newberry District.  He was brought to Franklin County in 1820.  He became a soldier in the Mexican War and was killed in Santa Fe, New Mexico December 8, 1846.  His will was administered by his brother John Hill Whitmire (W6/6.2) and his brother-in-law Thomas Lawson Cofer (C6/1.1).

 

Charity Ann Whitmire (W6/6.4), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whitmire (E7/1.1), was born May 17, 1819 in Franklin County.  She was married July 31, 1836 to Thomas Lawson Cofer (C6/1.1) in Franklin County.  He was born January 18, 1815 in Abbeville, South Carolina.

Martha Carolina Whitmire (W6/6.5), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whitmire (E7/1.1), was born March 28, 3821 in Franklin County.  She was married about 1840 to Isaac Evans (E6/1.q), believed to be a son of Benjamin Evans (E7/1.1) and Susannah Evans.  She died August 11, 1852.

Sarah Whitmire (W6/6.6), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whit­mire (E7/1.1), was born July 23, 1824 in Franklin County.  She died October 9, 1833.

 

Ruth Whitmire (W6/6.7), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whit­mire (E7/1.1), was born May 17, 1826 in Franklin County.  She was married in 1846 to Thomas J. Woodcock (W6/1.1) who was born in 1822 in Tennessee.  She died June 3, 1850.

Isaac E. Woodcock (W5/1.1), son of Thomas J. Woodcock (W6/1.1) and Ruth Whitmire Wood­cock (W6/6.7), was born in February 1847.  He was married about 1867 to his cousin Mary A. Whitmire (W5/5.4), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W6/2.5) and Nancy Wheeler Whit­mire (W6/1.2).  She died prior to 1870, and he was remarried to Jane Bennett (B5/1.2).

 

Mary A. "Polly" Woodcock (W5/1.2), daughter of Thomas J. Woodcock (W6/1.1) and Ruth Whitmire Woodcock (W6/6.7), was born in 1849.  She was married about 1867 to Charles Stanaford (S5/1.1).

 

Mary Whitmire (W6/6.8), daughter of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whit­mire (E7/1.1), was born September 28, 1830 in Franklin County.  She was married Octo­ber 16, 1852 to her cousin, Henry Whitmire (W6/2.9), son of Henry Whitmire (W7/3.2) and Ruth Hill Whitmire (H7/1.1).  Two sons, including Isaac Whitmire (W5/8.1), and a daughter were born to them before she died December 24, 1868.

 

Walter Henry  Whitmire (W6/6.9), son of Moses Whitmire (W7/3.6) and Elizabeth Evans Whitmire (E7/1.1), was born in Franklin County April 28, 1833.  He died August 7, 1834.

  Charity Whitmire (W7/3.7), daughter of George Frederick Whitmire (W8/1.3) and Sarah Phoebe Hagood Whitmire (H8/1.1), was born about 1791.  She did not marry.

 

Rachel Whitmire (W7/3.8), daughter of George Frederick Whitmire (W8/1.3) and Sarah Phoebe Hagood Whitmire (H8/1.1), was born about 1794 in Newberry District.
