In Great-Grandpa Dave Ferguson's Desk I found a handmade leather packet, folded over, and sewn with leather  strapping, with several legal papers pertaining to the Everman family, and apparently belonging to Great-Grandma Belle's parents. 


 
I John Kirkpatrick and Ira Kirkpatrick of Montgomery County and State of Ky, doth oblige outselvs our heirs and administrator to convey to John Everman all our interest of the Mill and two acres of land, one acre, one each side of the river of James Kirkpatrick, deceased, without any recourse on us to the full performance here of the said Kirkpatricks by these presents bind themselves their heirs and executor in the penelty two hundred dollars witness your hands this 22nd day of Feb 1831.

Know all men by these presents that I Littleton Attebery am held and firmly bound to John Everman in the sum of Eighty dollars as witness my hand and seal this 7th day of October A.D. 1847.  The condition of the above obligation is such that on this day the aforesaid John Everman and Jane Everman, his wife, has signed a deed, for a certain tract of land in said deed described, to Pridy Mahewren the sum of consideration is one hundred and eighty dollars it being eighty dollars more than I gave the said Evermans for said tract of land.  Now if the said Atteberry shall and will forever prevent all recourse by said Pridy Mahewren for any error in his signing the said deed for the eighty dollars more than their actual agreement with him, it only being aniented for the purpose of saving the expense of another deed then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and effect.   Signed and sealed this 7th day of October 1847.

Know all men by these presents that I David McLaughlin, James Muncy and his wife Isabel, alias Isabel Dicky of the County of Montgomery and State of Kentucky for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to us in hand paid by John Everman of Christian County and State of Illinois the receipt thereof we do hereby acknowledge have bargained sold and quit claimed and by these presents do bargain sill and quit claim unto the said John Everman and to his heirs and assigns for ever all our and each of our rights title interest estate and command both at law and in equity and as were in possession as in aspectincy of in and to all that certain farm or piece of land situated in the County of Macon and State of Illinois to wit the south west quarter of the northeast quarter of Section fifteen in Township fourteen North of the base line of range two east of the thiva principal maredian, containing 40 acres also west 1/2 SE qur of section fifteen Town 14 R 2 E of the third principal mardian containing 80 acres with all and singular the hereaitaments and appertainances there unto belonging in witness thereof we have hereunto sit our hands and sign this 16th day of September 1847.

We Robert D Gay and A C Daniel Justices of the Peace for said county so hereby certify that David McLaughlin and Elizabeth McLaughlin his wife, James Muncy and his wife Isabela Muncy alias Isabela Dicky parties to the within Deed personally appeared before us in our court aforesaid and subscribed and acknowledge the same to be their act and did we having previously examined the said Elizabeth McLaughlin and Isabella Muncy, alias Isabela Dicky apart from their husbands and they with there own free will and consent relinquished there right of owner in the said lands and advised us to certify the said acknowledgment to the clerk of the probate court of the county of Macon and State of Illinois in assure that the said deed may be recorded.
 
Given under our honors this 16th day of September 1847

DEED - From Elizabeth Hogan-Ferguson, widow of William Milo Ferguson

Deed recorded in Book I, page 181 Know all men by these presents, that I, Elizabeth Ferguson, of the County of Howell & State of Missouri, have this day, for & in consideration of the sum of three dollars and 75/100 to the said Elizabeth Ferguson in hand paid by J. W. Chambers, E. C. Ferguson and George Patterson, of the County of Howell and State of Missouri, granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, unto the said J. W. Chambers, E. C. Ferguson and George Patterson, and their successors in offices, (trustees) in trust, that said premises shall be used, kept, maintained and disposed of as a place of Devine worship for the use of the ministry and membership of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States of American, subject to the discipline, usage, and ministerial appointments of said Church, as from time to time authorized and declared by the General Conference of said Church and the Annual Conference in whose bounds the said premises are situate, the following described tract of land, beginning on the line of the original survey between NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 and NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of sect. 30 Township No 27 N. Range No. 9 W. at a corner stone established between James Harris and Wm. M. Ferguson and running north thirty five yards, then running east one hundred yards, then running south seventy yards, then running west one hundred yards, then running north thirty five yards to the beginning, containing one acre and 30/100 more or less situate in the county of Howell and State of Missouri, to have and to hold the premises hereby conveyed, with all the rights, privileges and appurtances thereto belonging, or in any wise appertaining unto the said J. W. Chambers, E. C. Ferguson and George Patterson, and their successors in office forever, * the said Elizabeth Ferguson, hereby covenanting to and with the aforesaid trustees and their successors in office, to warrant and defend the title to the premises hereby conveyed against the claims of every person whatsoever. The deed was executed before James H. Hogan, Justice of the Peace, who is the brother of Elizabeth Hogan Ferguson. Emanuel Clark "Colonel" Ferguson, one of the Trustees, is her son, as is one of the witnesses, James A. Ferguson. Another trustee, George Patterson, was married to Sarah R. Luttrell-Patterson, a half-sister of Elizabeth Hogan-Ferguson.
