  • MILLER, Rev. Benjamin, first pastor serving his church [Scotch Plains Baptist Church] for 34 years, 1748-1785 (sic) (1) p. 18.
    Rev. Benjamin Miller was born 1715 Piscataway, New Jersey; as a youngster he lived about 1/2 miles from the church; said to have married Johanna(h) [--?--], and died 14 Nov 1781 [gravestone] probably at Scotch Plains, Union County, NJ at 66 years [gravestone]. He is said to have taken the leadership of the Scotch Plains Baptist Church, where he is buried in its cemetery. He wrote his will on 24 Jan 1765 Elizabeth Town, Essex Co., NJ, which was probated 16 Dec 1781 with sons Benjamin and James named as executors. Witnesses included: Wm. Darby, Elisha Rolfe, and Abraham Hampton. (NJ Colonial Documents: Wills: 1781-1785, p. 272)
