CAMP MCQUAIDE TODAY

Camp McQuaide today located on the Monterey Bay Academy, situated six miles from Watsonville, California, in Santa Cruz Valley, is on a sandy palisade overlooking the Pacific Ocean, where the waters of the ocean mingle with the warm depths of Monterey bay. It occupies a commanding position, being in practically the center shoreline of Monterey Bay. Off to the northwest lies the city of Santa Cruz, and to the southwest the historic city of Monterey glistens along the shores of the Bay.
Camp McQuaide, itself, was established in 1926 at Capitola. The present site was obtained and dedicated in 1938, and was named in memory of Major Joseph P. McQuaide, deceased, Chaplain of the 250th for many years.

This building does not appear to be original according to aerial pictures of Camp McQuaide pre-1941. A large dome roof warehouse was located here. The smaller building to the right maybe original. G.L. Krenzelok Collection, all rights reserved, 2010.

Original Motor Repair Shop at the corner of McQuaide Dr and Beach Dr and on the right in the original Post Headquarters Building. Note: The headquarters building is possibly an O.Q.M.C. Plan number 700-253 Administration Building, 22-clerk type. Original price to construct: 7,660 dollars. The Post Headquarters Building appears to be highly modified but still has its original appearance. To the right was the main parade grounds and flagpole. G.L.
