Keeping The Memory of Our Loved Ones Alive.....

The Stanley Family Cemetery - Clintwood, Virginia

Graciously donated by the Stanley Family of Dickenson County Virginia,  this Stanley Cemetery is located on a hill between the Longs Fork Elementary School and the AEP Buildings on Highway 72 in Clintwood.  Several of my family members are laid to rest there and I am grateful for Mrs. Judy Dixon and her son Stephen for their years of dedication in maintaining and overseeing the cemetery grounds. The following cemetery photos were taken and sent to me by my Applichian Angel, Mrs. Vicki Shiner of Clintwood Virginia.  Alma

My maternal grandmother and wife of Cecil S Sanders, Alma Virginia Dixon died in Cincinnati Ohio on 27 May 1958 attempting to give birth to her unborn child. My grandma and namesake was only 39 years old.

My maternal grandfather and husband of Alma Virginia Dixon, Cecil Steve Sanders died from a massive heart attack on 09 June 1953 in New Orleans LA. He was only 50 years of age. The following statement regarding  Cecil's final journey was shared with this writer by Cecil's first born son Eddie S Sanders in 2004:

" When our dad died in New Orleans they sent us to Virginia on the train and unbeknown to us, in Memphis, Tennessee, they put dads body on the same train that we were on. So, we rode the train the last several hundred miles with his body. The family met us in Abington, Virginia and took us to Jenkins and dad's body to the funeral home close by."

My mothers first born child and my only sibling, Debra Zackie Dailey suffered a crib death on 1 Dec 1955 from complications associated with acute bronchitis and possible pneumonia. Zackie was named after her great grandfather, Confederate Soldier Zachariah F Taylor of Cobb Co GA. Zackie was not quite 5 months old when she passed away.
