There are literally thousands of related websites out there, and this list is not intended to be all inclusive.

The Ghost Town Guru






This is probably the top site on the web for obtaining information about your ancestors.  HOWEVER it is NOT a free site, and unlimited access is only via subscription.  Information for subscribing can be obtained at the above link.  If you are serious about your genealogy, this would make an excellent investment.

With nearly 300,000 genealogy links in over 200 categories, Cyndi’s List is probably the most “…comprehensive, categorized & cross-referenced list of links that point you to genealogical research sites online.”


·        Ellis Island

Operated by the Statue of Liberty – Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., this site is THE place to visit if your ancestors arrived in the United States via Ellis Island.



This database is a compendium of 26,000-some genealogical databases, and according to their Overview is “…devoted to helping you locate information on FAMILY HISTORY, information about immigration records, census records, historical accounts, in the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th century in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany. ·        Family Chronicle - Top Genealogy Websites...

This site lists the top 1300 most popular genealogy websites.


·        Family Search

This site has grown in size and popularity since coming online a few years ago.  It is operated by the Mormon Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – LDS) but you do not have to be a member to access the site’s massive databases of information, some of which are available nowhere else.


·        Family Tree Maker's Genealogy Site: Home Page

If you have this genealogy program, then this site is made for you! 


·        Genealogy Search

This site owned by Julian and Angela Richens has scads of links to various other Genealogy sites.  Check it out!


·        RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative

This huge compendium of historical and genealogical databases and websites is also the host for Ghost Town USA’s website.
