WILLIAM GUYMER Generation 1

John Trudgill has come up with an excellant hypothesis that William Guymer below may well be the son of Edmund & Martha from the Reepham page. William's first son is called Edmund & first daughter is called Martha. Edmund & Martha senior married in Taverham in 1757. Their first known child John was born in 1758 & the next known child Anne was born in 1764 so it is highly likley there were others in between who are as yet unkown. John has employed a "professional" who has come up with:- "There is no Ringland register bill (neither BT nor AT - register bills are made up of Bishop's Transcripts and Archdeacon's Transcripts) surviving for 1760/1. The Ringland register is certainly difficult to read on microfiche, so I was allowed to examine the original register and even then had to employ the use of a UV light. You will be pleased to have your reading confirming - the 1760 baptism is definitely that of William son of Edmund and Martha Gimer, though the recording of Martha's Christian name is rather odd (it looks like Marthew presumably a version of the female Matthew which one comes across occasionally). The duty archivist was unable to do any better on this!"

William married Mary Magdeline Clarke at Catton St Margarets on 17th October 1782 (PR 143) after banns read from 29th September to 13th October 1782 Catton St Margaret (PR 129). Witnessed by William Cooper and Daniel Mann

Obituary in The Times 19th September 1977
Dr Ronald Frank Guymer who died on September 15, quietly but effectively played a leading role in the development of industrial health in the post 1945 years. For many years chief medical officer to Lloyds Bank, he was well known and appreciated in the City and banking circles, and was a Fellow of and much appreciated lecturer in the Institue of Bankers. A Cambridge graduate who took his clinical training at St Thomas's Hospital, he in due course became lecturer in industrial diseases at his old hospital and at St Bartholomew's Hospital, as well as the Royal Army Medical College, Millbank. This last appointment he particularly appreciated, having been a keen territorial all his life, ending up as a colonel and being awarded the TD.
At different times he served on the World Health Organisation international committee on joint medical services, the University of London public health engineering advisory committee, and the International Commission on Occupational Health, thus demonstrating not only his versatility and the scope of his wide interests in medicine, but also the international reputation he had achieved in his special field. A gift for getting on with people, combined with an attractive personality, made him an ideal committee man, with a shrewd mind that could quickly penetrate to the root of a problem
He is survived by his wife, Dr Lesley Bidsrup, whom he married in 1952 and who was well known in the field of industrial medicine
