July 9, 1929
Dear Sister,
Excuse me if this letter sounds too much like a newspaper, but I guess maybe
that's what you'll like, being as you haven't heard from home for so long.
Roscoe has the whooping cough. He's had it about four weeks now.
Lela and Leonard were down to Places Sunday.
At the school meeting last night Dad was relected (sic) clerk. They voted to have the lane graveled.
Alta and Dutch are coming so I'll finish after a while.
Thur. July 11
They brought the girls down to stay for awhile. They're awful good to work.
They go out and lead the horse and also drive in the field. I guess Dad will
pay them. They save us girls from going out. Gertrude had to lead it over to Leonard's.
Our new men helped Leonard, so he and Cecil help us. Lela and Roscoe were over
here all day today.
I guess you heard that Delmar's and Frank Andrew's have babys(sic). Delmar's call theirs Delmar Eugene and Franks call theirs Norma June.
Willie Allen married Maude Latham. They live where Authur used to live and
Authur lives where Chettinger lived. Dorothy Wagner and Clyde Bourette are
married too.
Loyd and his family have been back for about two weeks. They went home Sunday.
Dad and Uncle Knute's were down there Sunday.
The folks may go west. They might happen to go before you get home.
I've taken the school back again. The oldest girl, the one that I brought home
with me at Easter time, got her diploma. I might have a couple little boys
start. I thought at first I might have only four.
There is a new dentist in Livingston. Dad, Alice, Florence, and I have all been to him. Alice had a bridge put in, Florence had 13
cavities and I had three. Dad had quite a little work done.
I had Verona Munson make me two dresses, so you know how busy we've been
running to town.
Mother, Dad, Gertrude and Alice went to Fennimore the fourth. We kids went to
Platteville that night to hear Al Jolson in "The Singing Fool."
We are milking 20 cows this summer. We have quite a few hard ones.
Raymond is just helping different ones make hay.
Gertrude and Raymond did the work for Whittenheller's a week while they went
out west. Harry Griswold helped them with the milking.
Platteville fair will be the last week in July. Livingston will have a
Chautauqua the same time.
Mary Biddick works for Frank Andrew. Vesta works for Leroys.
Old Kat died. She got a sore eye and also got sick.
We have quite a few raspberries in that "20 acre" patch so it will be lots of
work to pick them. We got a few strawberries to can.
There will be a twin picnic in the park at Livingston Sat. The twins of Grant
and Iowa Counties and their immediate families are invited.
I hope to see you soon so will close and tell you the rest when I see you.
Your loving sister,
Gladys
