Joel Hayden & Penny (Haddock) Petty's Family - McDonald Co., MO

Union Cemetery, McDonald Co., MO

Joel Hayden Petty was married to Penelope "Penny" Haddock. She was a daughter of Charles & Penelope (Mills) Haddock. Joel Petty, their son, was buried at Union Cemetery in McDonald Co., MO. He was born Feb 15, 1848 and died Jan 29, 1917. Joel H. Petty served in the 6th Regt of the Kansas Cavalry. His stone at Union gives his birth and death dates and his military information.

In 1900 Federal Population Schedules, US Census, McDonald Co., MO, Center Twp., House # 38: Joel H. Petty, age 52, born Feb 1848, in MO. and unknown states of birth for his mother and father. Sarah A., his wife age 36, born April 1864. She was born in Kentucky and both of her parents were born in Kentucky. They have been married for 17 years. Sarah has had 4 children and has 3 living children. Maudine was 11 years old born in MO. She was born April 1889. John A. was 3 years old and was born May 1897 in Missouri.

Joel H. Petty, Jr. was in Company L., 6th U. S Cavalry as was my great grandfather James William Petty (his older brother). James was promoted to corporal before taking a disability discharge (I have James' military records) from a gun shot wound through his chest and lung. Joel was a Private, not a Col. as you had stated - I can see where CO L could be taken for Col. [Thanks to Carl Henson, Tulsa, OK for this input and notice of record.]
